Argentina Moves To Exist WHO

Argentina has revealed plans to pull out of the World Health Organization, WHO. This is following US President Donald Trump’s executive order last month to pull the United States out of the global health group.

It was gathered that Argentina’s President Javier Milei, who is a close ally to Trump, is set to exit the WHO for similar reasons as Trump’s.

On January 20th, after Trump was sworn in, he signed an executive order to remove the US from the organization on his first day in office. Saying that the global health agency mishandled the COVID-19 pandemic and many other international health crises. Trump also noted that the WHO required an unfairly huge payment from the U.S., which is its biggest funder.

Argentina’s Presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, noted that Argentina will not allow international organizations to interfere with its sovereignty, especially in health matters. He also criticized the WHO’s guidelines during the pandemic, stating they led to the “largest shutdown in the history of mankind.”

The decision was met with critics, expressing concerns about withdrawing from the WHO may limit Argentina’s access to essential funding and medical resources. They argue that such a move requires congressional approval, suggesting that the unilateral action may face legal challenges.

The process of withdrawal is expected to take one year from the formal notification date. However, during this period, Argentina will continue to fulfill its financial obligations to WHO.
