Anyanwu Disputes Udeh-Okoye’s Memo on PDP NEC Meeting

The dispute over the position of National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated further yesterday as the two rival claimants issued conflicting notices regarding the party’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

Sunday Udeh-Okoye, one of the claimants, issued a letter stating that the NEC meeting had been rescheduled from March 15 to May 15, 2025. However, Senator Samuel Anyanwu swiftly dismissed the letter, labeling Udeh-Okoye an “agent of destruction.”

The controversial letter, bearing the title of PDP National Secretary under Udeh-Okoye’s name, was circulated to reporters in Abuja through the party’s Publicity Directorate. In response, Anyanwu sent a memo to PDP governors, NEC members, and the Board of Trustees (BoT), urging them to disregard the notice.

In the memo titled “Re: Notice of 99th NEC Meeting,” Anyanwu asserted that Udeh-Okoye was not the legitimate national secretary and had never been authorized by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to issue such a notice. He further pointed out that Udeh-Okoye was under a court order restraining him from acting as the national secretary until a pending appeal was resolved.

Accusing Udeh-Okoye of attempting to destabilize the party, Anyanwu warned him against actions that could undermine the PDP’s unity and bring it into disrepute.

PDP Schedules Zonal Congresses for April 12

Meanwhile, the PDP has set April 12 as the new date for its zonal congresses in the South-South, South-West, and North-Central regions.

National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba announced that the congresses will be held simultaneously in Port Harcourt (South-South), Ibadan (South-West), and Jos (North-Central). The elections will determine the executive officers and national ex-officio members for the respective zones in accordance with the party’s constitution and guidelines.

The party urged aspirants, stakeholders, members, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the media to take note of the scheduled date.

Call for Unity in PDP’s South-South Zone

In a related development, the Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) welcomed the appointment of the South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee. In a statement, Protem National Coordinator Obinna Nwachukwu called on Elder Emmanuel Ogidi, who leads the committee, to remain focused and work with stakeholders to promote stability and growth in the zone.
