An munitions plant explosion in Turkey claimed twelve lives
At least 12 people have died and four more have been injured in an explosion at an ammunition and explosives facility in northwest Turkey.
Ismail Ustaoglu, the governor of the city of Balikesir, stated that the explosion occurred in the capsule production department at 8:25 local time (5:25 GMT).
Although the cause is yet unknown, investigators have ruled out sabotage, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.
Videos from the incident showed plumes of dark smoke rising after a fireball erupted from the facility, damaging a portion of the structure.
Additional footage from the aftermath reveals broken steel pieces scattered throughout.
According to witnesses who spoke to CNN Turk, the explosion sent shockwaves through the Köteyli community.
Numerous fire personnel were dispatched to address the incident, as well as security and health issues.
According to Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc, an inquiry has been opened into the events leading up to the explosion.
