The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has voiced concern over allegations of sexual harassment and intimidation leveled against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central.

In a statement released on Sunday, ACF spokesperson Muhammad-Baba called for an independent, transparent, and thorough investigation into the claims.

Allegations
During an interview with Arise Television on Friday, Mrs. Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Mr. Akpabio of making inappropriate advances toward her during a visit to his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on December 8, 2023.

She alleged that the Senate President took her by the hand, led her around his house, and made sexual advances, even in the presence of her husband.

Additionally, she claimed that on a different occasion, Mr. Akpabio suggested that she should “take care of him” if she wanted her motions to be given favorable consideration in the Senate.

ACF’s Concern
The ACF noted that the situation has escalated to the point where even Mrs. Akpoti-Uduaghan’s husband has been compelled to address the issue publicly. The forum warned that such allegations could tarnish the reputation of the legislative body responsible for making laws in Nigeria.

According to the statement, the controversy surrounding these allegations has significant implications for the public image of the Nigerian Senate, both nationally and internationally. Furthermore, while the matter remains unresolved, the people of Kogi Central may not be receiving adequate representation in the 10th Senate.
