“They’re Insulting Our Intelligence” ~ NLC Spokesperson Benson Upah
The spokesperson of NLC, Benson Upah, has said that those who say that petrol is sold for free in Nigeria are insulting our Intelligence. He made this known while he was on Arise News.
He said, “For those who have been insulting our collective intelligence, who say that petrol is cheaper, I mean that petrol is costlier in other countries and so on and so forth. That Nigeria literally has petrol for free. Shame on them for insulting our intelligence.”
He continued that people who say it’s cheaper in Niger do not tell us how much those in others make. He further gave a list of countries and their earnings as of 2018, emphasizing the dollar rate as of 2018.
He said, “Now I have with me, a chart, this chart was prepared in 2018 when our Naira was 360 to 350”
He went further to list the countries and their earnings in dollars. He said “Benin Republic salary monthly salary in dollars is $68. Burkina Faso $59, Chad $103, The Gambia $26, Ghana $48, Guinea-Bissau $32, Cota’l vore $155, Liberia $27, Mali $48, Mauritania $83, Sierra Leone 98, Algeria 162, Angola 98.”
He stated that he could keep going on, but his point was that Nigeria was among the least-paying countries in the world, and now “it’s undisputably” the least-paying country in the world.
He further continued to emphasize that people who encourage the narrative that petrol is cheaper in Nigeria are insulting our Intelligence.
