The widow of Robert F. Kennedy receiving post-stroke care in a hospital
According to her grandson on Tuesday, October 8, Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy and mother of former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is undergoing treatment in a hospital following a stroke last week.
“I wanted to share with you the amazing Ethel Kennedy, my grandma. She is enjoying the shift from summer to October. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews every day. She had numerous lunches and dinners with family, went to the pier, and enjoyed being out on the ocean. It’s been a gift to her and to all of us. Joe Kennedy III posted on X, saying, “Unfortunately, she had a stroke in her sleep on Thursday morning.”
“She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she is currently undergoing care. The former congressman went on, “She is surrounded by family, she is comfortable, and she is receiving the greatest care available.
On Tuesday, Kennedy’s grandson requested solitude for his family as well as thoughts and prayers.
Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy were married in 1950 and had eleven children together. The US attorney general and former senator from New York was killed in 1968 while running for president.
Kennedy, 96, is an environmentalist and human rights advocate who co-founded the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation, which promotes the causes he supported.
President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014.
