In the Haryana election, Modi’s BJP leads, while in Kashmir, it trails

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party is leading in the northern state of Haryana but is set to fall short in Indian-administered Kashmir as votes continue to be counted in two state elections.

An opposition alliance formed by the Congress and regional party National Conference (NC) is ahead in Jammu and Kashmir.

These were the first state polls to be held in India since the general election, which returned the BJP to power in June with a reduced majority.

A third straight win in Haryana would be a big boost for Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of other state elections due in the next few weeks.

In two state elections, where votes are still being counted, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party is leading in Haryana, in the north, but is predicted to lose in Kashmir, which is controlled by India.

A regional party called the National Conference (NC) and the Congress have formed an opposition alliance in Jammu & Kashmir.

These were India’s first state elections after the federal election in June, which saw the BJP reclaim power with a lesser majority.

A third straight win in Haryana will be extremely beneficial for Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of other state elections that are planned for the coming weeks.
This was Jammu and Kashmir’s first assembly election since the federal government dissolved the region’s autonomy and converted it into a federally governed territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
