FG Approves N820bn to Finish the Bodo Bonny and Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highways
Over N820 billion has been authorized by the federal government for the completion of the Bodo-Bonny road in Opobo, Rivers State, and the restoration of the vital Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway.
According to a statement released in Abuja yesterday by Uchenna Orji, the minister of works David Umahi’s spokesman, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has been charged by the federal government with expediting the completion of the repair of the two main road infrastructures.
He cited Umahi as making the claim at a meeting at the ministry’s Mabushi, Abuja headquarters with Julius Berger, who was represented by Benjamin Bott, Executive Director, Projects, and Omonigho Brown, Head of Contract Management.
Speaking at the conference, Umahi reminded everyone that on September 23, 2024, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) authorized the contract for the repair of the Abuja, Kaduna, Zaria, and Kano dual carriageway, as well as its rescoping and downward review.
He added that it also updated the contract’s projected total cost/augmentation for building the Bodo-Bonny road, which is route 430 in Rivers State, together with the bridges that span the Opobo canal (contract No. 6247).
In light of Nigeria’s severe economic circumstances, he said, these amounted to a total contract sum of N740,797,204,713. 25 and N80,076,361,036.13. He also tasked the contractors managing federal government projects with stressing the importance of corporate nationalism in price negotiations.
