“I want to apologize for making a mistake… That’s not in the Bible.” ~ Pastor Adeboye
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye, has apologized to his members for saying that those who don’t pay tithe will not make heaven. The video of him making this statement has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter).
“I want to apologize for making a mistake by saying that if you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven. Sorry, that’s wrong,” he said.
He further explained, “That’s not in the Bible. What the Bible says is ‘Be at peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.'” He added, “It’s possible to be right and wrong at the same time.”
He then illustrated this with an example, explaining how sometimes what we think is right turns out to be wrong.
“For years, we thought that light travels in a straight line. Is that correct? But later on, we discovered it doesn’t travel straight like a rod; light travels in waves.”
Although he admitted to being wrong, he added that one shouldn’t limit their tithe to 10%.
“It is wrong to limit it to ten percent.”
“Ten percent should be for beginners,” he added, suggesting that some people should be paying “20 percent, 30 percent.”
