Maguire Stuns Anfield: Late Header Seals 2-1 United Upset Over Liverpool

Manchester United stunned Liverpool with a 2-1 win at Anfield on Sunday, thanks to a late header from Harry Maguire in the 84th minute. The victory marked United’s first league win at Anfield since 2016 and delivered a major blow to Liverpool’s title hopes.

United took a surprise lead just two minutes in when Bryan Mbeumo finished off a quick counterattack. Liverpool pushed for an equalizer, hitting the post multiple times and dominating possession, but failed to make their pressure count until the 78th minute when Cody Gakpo turned in Federico Chiesa’s low cross to level the score.

Parity didn’t last long. Just six minutes later, Bruno Fernandes picked out Maguire with a pinpoint volleyed cross, and the United captain nodded home the winner. Liverpool had a final chance through Gakpo, but he headed wide with the goal at his mercy.

The defeat leaves Liverpool four points behind leaders Arsenal and extends their losing streak to three games. United move up to ninth, just two points behind their rivals, easing pressure on manager Rúben Amorim after a difficult start to the season.
