India Faces Potential FIFA Ban Again Over Delayed AIFF Constitution.
India risks being banned from international football for the second time in three years after FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) issued a warning over delays in finalizing a new constitution for the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
In a letter sent to AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey, the two governing bodies expressed serious concern over the lack of progress and set a deadline of October 30 for the adoption of the new constitution.
Failure to comply, they warned, could lead to India’s suspension from world football, which would bar its national teams and clubs from international competitions.
The constitution has been pending a decision in India’s Supreme Court since 2017.
FIFA had previously suspended India in August 2022 due to third-party interference, after the court appointed a committee to oversee the AIFF. That ban was lifted shortly after, allowing Chaubey to be elected as president.
