ASUU Issues Strike Threat Over Unmet Demands, Calls for Urgent Government Action.

ASUU has warned the Federal Government to address its longstanding demands or risk a nationwide strike.

Speaking at a press conference at Federal University Oye-Ekiti, ASUU Akure Zonal Coordinator, Prof. Adeola Egbedokun, criticized the Tinubu administration for ignoring issues since taking office two years ago.

The union’s demands include implementation of the 2009 agreement, proper university funding, unpaid salary arrears, delayed promotions, and the non-remittance of deductions.

Egbedokun warned that lecturers’ patience is exhausted and all options, including a strike, are on the table.

He also condemned the government’s loan policy for lecturers, calling it a trap to keep them in debt.

ASUU urged stakeholders students, religious and traditional leaders, and the National Assembly to pressure the government to act. Peaceful rallies were held across campuses as a warning signal, ahead of a scheduled meeting with the government on August 28.
