De@dly Att@ck on Plateau Villages Leaves Over 15 Dead
At least 15 people were killed! Several people were k!lled and dozens were injured in a brut@l att@ck on seven villages in Chakfem district of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The attack, which occurred on the night of Monday, August 18, targeted the communities of Manden, Jibin, Tim, Jiblang, Koppang, Mihdihin, and Jilem, leaving widespread destruction in its wake.
Eyewitnesses and local leaders report that the att@ckers arrived between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m., setting homes ablaze, looting livestock, and k!ll!ng residents who were unable to flee.
Among the vict!ms were women and children, and survivors are currently receiving treatment at COCIN Hospital in Mwar-Chakfem.
The traditional ruler’s residence and official vehicle were also destroyed during the raid.
His Royal Highness Da Raymond Yombish, a survivor, recounted narrowly escaping the onslaught, while another resident, Sohotden Emmanuel, described hiding in a nearby farm to avoid the att@ckers.
Bulus Dabit, National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), confirmed the incident and expressed concern over the delayed response from security agencies, citing the region’s rugged terrain and inaccessibility.
He warned that unless the federal government intervenes, the communities face the risk of total annihilation.
Dabit alleged that members of the Fulani community were responsible for the attack, claiming it was part of a broader strategy to infiltrate deeper into Mangu and Mwaghavul territory. However, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, Plateau State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), denied the allegations, condemning the violence and urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for government intervention, improved security infrastructure, and community empowerment to defend against future attacks.
