Ilaje Women Threaten Nude Protest Over Alleged Land Grabs and Demolitions by Lagos Monarchs.
Women from the Ilaje community in Lagos State have threatened to stage a n*de protest following the ongoing demolition of their ancestral settlements.
Hundreds of protesters under Egbe Omo Ilaje marched to the Lagos State House of Assembly on August 19, calling on Governor Sanwo-Olu and Speaker Obasa to intervene.
They accused some traditional rulers of illegally grabbing land and destroying Ilaje communities, with an elderly woman warning they would strip and protest at the monarchs’ palaces if nothing is done.
The President-General of Egbe Omo Ilaje Worldwide, Rafael Irowainu, claimed some monarchs falsely use President Bola Tinubu’s name to justify these actions and alleged many are not Lagos indigenes but from Osun and Ekiti states.
Protesters called for justice, compensation for displaced families, and condemned what they see as attempts to erase Ilaje heritage.
They warned that by 2027, they may reconsider their political future if the situation persists.
