Edo Deputy Governor Predicts 98% APC Win in Ovia By-Election.
Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, has expressed strong confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will secure 98% of the votes in the upcoming by-election for the Ovia federal constituency, scheduled for August 16.
Idahosa, who vacated the seat after becoming deputy governor, said the party’s chances are bolstered by both the popularity of its candidate, Omosede Igbinedion, and the developmental achievements of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Friday Aghedo, Idahosa made the remarks during a campaign tour in Uhen and Isiuwa communities in Ovia North East Local Government Area on Monday.
He urged residents to come out in large numbers to support Igbinedion, emphasizing the importance of unity and voter mobilization ahead of election day.
He stated that his goal is for the APC to be declared winner by 1 pm on the day of the election, pointing out that Isiuwa, being Igbinedion’s home community, should naturally rally behind her.
He also acknowledged their shared commitment to the development of the constituency, despite previous political differences.
Omosede Igbinedion thanked the deputy governor for leading the campaign and pledged to focus on improving healthcare, completing ongoing electrification projects started by Idahosa, and providing farming inputs to support local agricultural communities. She cautioned against party disloyalty driven by financial inducements.
Igbinedion, who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC, said she made the switch to better align with the federal government and facilitate development in her constituency.
Describing the APC as the only viable political platform, she likened it to a “beautiful yacht” ready to accommodate all.
