NYSC leader wants to acquire skills in NDA curriculum
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps , Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed , has urged the Nigerian Defence Academy to incorporate skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programme in its curriculum .
He made the recommendation at the 22nd NDA Convocation honouring graduating students of 71 regular and postgraduate courses in Kaduna on Tuesday .
According to the News Agency of Nigeria , the theme of the talk was “ NYSC and Skills Acquisition for Youth Development in Nigeria : A Solution for National Security . ”
Ahmed said: “ This integration is crucial because NYSC will be ready to collaborate with the academy in this initiative.”
The vast land available in the NDA should be utilised to engage the cadets in agricultural production .
“ This initiative will not only promote sustainable land use , but will also provide cadets with practical agricultural skills , which will contribute to overall learning and self – sufficiency . ”
The director general also recommended that the academy ‘s graduate school consider implementing a skills acquisition program for its students .
He explained that such an initiative would provide students with valuable practical skills that would complement their academic goals , increase their employability and enhance their ability to rely on themselves .
He said skill acquisition was crucial for national security, adding : ” If any person is involved and has to do something , he will not think of committing crimes against his country .”
Everyone must have their own skills for the progress of the country.
Earlier, the Commander , NDA Maj. -Gen. John Ochai , thanked Ahmed for the talk, in which he explained the importance of skill acquisition for national development .
“The talk was an eye – opener for everyone to take it as a responsibility,” Ochai said .Apart from college education , one also acquires skills in a specific field that one is blessed with.
In doing so , they will be beneficial to themselves , society and contribute to the national economy .
