I’m willing to support any initiative that ensures Nigeria’s safety – Sule Lamido.
Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has expressed his readiness to support any political initiative whether within or outside the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that will promote Nigeria’s security and stability ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Tuesday, Lamido emphasized his commitment to the country, stating: “I believe in Nigeria. Any arrangement that can safeguard and stabilize the country in 2027, regardless of party lines, I am willing to support.”
Lamido, who previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, dismissed recent rumours suggesting he was planning to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He affirmed his loyalty to the PDP, saying, “I am still in the PDP. While the party has its issues, I cannot abandon my roots. I can’t shed my identity and take on a smaller one by joining the ADC. That’s not who I am.”
He added that the PDP had entrusted him with significant responsibilities in the past, including the roles of minister and state governor, and he could not simply discard that legacy. “It’s not possible for me to renounce my history, my achievements, and my political heritage for something new,” Lamido said.
Addressing calls for the creation of more states in Nigeria, Lamido acknowledged that such demands are legitimate but argued that they won’t resolve the country’s core challenges. “Will new states solve issues like insecurity, poverty, hunger, or the divide between North and South? There are more urgent problems facing Nigeria,” he stated.
Commenting on Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso’s recent visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Lamido said Kwankwaso had every right to engage in such meetings.
