Aisha Yesufu to Escort Suspended Senator Natasha Back to Senate.

Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has declared her support for suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, confirming that she will accompany the senator to the National Assembly on Tuesday.

Aisha Yesufu made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, where she stated that Senator Natasha has every legal right to resume her duties, referencing a court ruling that nullified the suspension.

Yesufu emphasized that Natasha will not be returning alone. “She has every right to resume office, and we will be with her,” she said. “If the Senate chooses to kill us for that, so be it.” She criticized the political system for its marginalization of women, noting that only four out of 109 senators are women, and yet they still face targeted political attacks.

She asserted that Natasha had done nothing wrong except to carry out her responsibilities as expected.

Describing the suspension as unconstitutional and unlawful, Yesufu condemned the Senate for defying a legitimate court judgement. “The Senate didn’t make her a senator her people did. They deserve representation,” she said.

She also raised concerns about the state of the judiciary, claiming it is being influenced by political interests. “Even when a judgement is delivered, the judiciary now looks at the body language of those dictating what should be written,” she said.

Meanwhile, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her intention to return to the Senate on July 22 while speaking from Ihima in Kogi State on Saturday.

She mentioned that she has approximately two months left in her six-month term and has formally informed the Senate of her plan to resume her legislative duties.
