Gunmen K!ll Six in Renewed Attack on Plateau Communities

At least six people have lost their lives in a fresh assault by gunmen on Marit and Gashish communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The attack, which happened in the early hours of Monday, May 5, 2025, also left several residents injured and hospitalized.

According to local sources who spoke to Daily Trust, the attackers invaded the area while residents were asleep. The Executive Chairman of Barkin Ladi, Hon. Stephen Pwajok Gyang, confirmed the attack through a statement issued by his press secretary, Mercy Yop. He revealed that the victims had been bur!ed in a mass grave on the same day.

Condemning the v!olence, the council chairman called for immediate and decisive actions to prevent further bloodshed. While visiting vict!ms at Barkin Ladi General Hospital, Hon. Pwajok expressed deep sorrow over the recurrence of v!olence, particularly at a time when efforts were being made to restore peace.

He commended the vigilance of local security personnel and urged them to intensify efforts to thwart future incidents. Stressing the need to break the cycle of v!olence, he appealed to security forces, community leaders, and residents to work together in fostering peace.

The statement also noted that the chairman offered prayers for the gr!eving families and urged medical personnel to prioritize the care of the wounded.
