“End Sexual Violence,” Says US Senator Accused of Forcing Aide into Oral Sex.
A US female senator accused of coercing her former chief of staff into sexual acts introduced a measure against sexual assault in the California Senate just months after sacking him for reportedly refusing her advances. Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil spoke for her measure in a video released on X, discussing the incidence of sexual assault and violence in the United States. “April is National #SexualAssaultAwarenessMonth, and I’m leading the way with Senate Bill 268. “My bill closes a critical gap in the state’s criminal justice system by reclassifying rape of an intoxicated person as a violent felony,” she stated.
She also encouraged survivors of sexual assault to get help and reminded them that it was not their fault, urging citizens to join efforts to “end sexual violence.” The law, which seeks to categorize rape of an intoxicated person as a severe felony and impose harsher punishments for sex crimes, passed the Senate on August 31.
