Senate  Explains why  Natasha’s Fresh Petition Against Akpabio Was Dismissed.

Neda Imaseun, chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, explained why the committee dismissed Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s sexual harassment case against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

During a session yesterday, Imaseun stated that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s initial petition was invalid because she signed it herself, which violated Senate rules.

Additionally, the petition did not include an address, which was another procedural breach. Imaseun responded to accusations of bias from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawyer, Abiola Akiode, by explaining that the case was now in court and that the committee would not interfere.

He referenced Senate Rule 40(7), which prohibits the Senate from addressing matters already under legal proceedings. As a result, the committee closed the case. Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a contempt case against Imaseun and Akpabio regarding her suspension.
