Samsung Co-CEO Han Jong-Hee Passes Away at 63.

Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-hee passed away on Tuesday, March 25, at the age of 63, due to a heart attack, the company confirmed to AFP.

Han, who was also a board member, died at a hospital while receiving treatment for cardiac arrest.

Samsung has not yet named a successor. Han is survived by his wife and three children. He became CEO of Samsung, South Korea’s largest company, in 2022 and oversaw its consumer electronics and mobile devices divisions.

Han played a major role in elevating Samsung’s television business globally and was instrumental in bringing the company’s high-end TVs to international prominence.

He joined Samsung in 1988 and helped make its LED TVs a global success. “Han was crucial in launching Samsung’s world-class LED TVs,” the company said in a biography published earlier this month, noting that his contributions helped the company maintain its position at the forefront of technology.

An analyst commented that Han’s sudden death might impact Samsung’s long-term business strategy, particularly in marketing.

Han was not part of the Samsung family, which is still led by third-generation head Lee Jae-yong. His passing could affect Samsung’s strategy to remain the top player in the global TV market, according to Kim Dae-Jong, a professor at Sejong University in Seoul.
