Trump to Release All Remaining JFK Assassination Files

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the final batch of secret files related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy—totaling approximately 80,000 pages—will be released today.

Speaking at the Kennedy Center on Monday, Trump emphasized his commitment to full disclosure, stating, “People have been waiting decades for this.” He also assured that the documents would not be redacted.

The FBI recently uncovered around 2,400 previously unrecognized records linked to the assassination during a search prompted by Trump’s executive order. These documents have been digitized and transferred to the National Archives for inclusion in the declassification process.

In his first week in office, Trump signed an order mandating the release of assassination-related files, including those concerning JFK’s brother, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The directive required the Director of National Intelligence and the Attorney General to develop a plan for full disclosure within 15 days.

The 1992 President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act mandated that all related materials be housed in the National Archives and released to the public, allowing federal agencies 25 years to process and disclose the documents. The archive contains over 5 million pages, with more than 97% already made available.

The most recent declassification took place in August 2023, with today’s release expected to mark the final disclosure of all remaining records.
