Ukraine Shoots Down Russian Missile, 79 Drones in Latest Attack

Ukraine reported on Tuesday, March 11, that its air defense forces successfully shot down a Russian Iskander-M ballistic missile and 79 drones, while another 35 drones failed to reach their targets, likely due to electronic warfare countermeasures.

According to Ukrainian officials, Russia launched a large-scale overnight assault, firing 126 drones and a ballistic missile, which ignited a fuel storage facility and left at least two people injured in different parts of the country.

Emergency services confirmed that in Odesa, the strikes set fire to a fuel storage facility, a private home, and a warehouse containing children’s toys. More than 100 responders were deployed to manage the situation.

Meanwhile, in northeastern Kharkiv, regional governor Oleh Syniehubov and local prosecutors reported that a drone attack injured one person and damaged agricultural storage facilities.

Ukraine’s Air Force did not specify the fate of the remaining 12 drones that were not intercepted.

The attack occurred on the same day that Ukrainian officials were set to meet with U.S. representatives in Saudi Arabia to discuss potential solutions to the ongoing war with Russia.

It also coincided with reports from Russian authorities claiming that Ukraine had launched its largest-ever drone assault on Moscow, with hundreds of drones intercepted across Russia.
