Pro-Fubara Group Denounces Calls for Governor’s Resignation and Impeachment

The Supreme Council for Sim, a political group backing Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has strongly opposed calls for his resignation or impeachment.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tony Okocha, recently demanded that Fubara either step down or face impeachment, citing alleged mismanagement, legal violations, and a lack of respect for President Bola Tinubu, who had previously intervened in the state’s political crisis with an eight-point agenda.
In response, leaders of the pro-Fubara group condemned Okocha’s statements during a media briefing in Port Harcourt, calling them inflammatory.
Joshua Fubara, the group’s convener, warned Okocha and others pushing for the governor’s removal not to mistake his humility for weakness. He argued that if the governor had taken a more combative stance, the state could have plunged into turmoil.
He further highlighted the governor’s accomplishments, stating that rather than discussing his removal, Rivers people should be considering re-electing Fubara for a second term—an initiative the group is already championing.
Another leader, Esezi Obilor-Rukani, dismissed impeachment threats, emphasizing that Fubara had not committed any offense warranting removal from office.
He praised the governor’s leadership style, citing major achievements such as the long-overdue promotion of civil servants after eight years and the implementation of an ₦85,000 minimum wage.
According to Obilor-Rukani, Fubara has also demonstrated prudent financial management, leading to significant investments in infrastructure, including road construction, healthcare, and education.
The group called for political unity in the state, urging all factions to align with the Supreme Court ruling and work together for progress.
As part of this effort, they appealed to the Rivers State House of Assembly to accept Fubara’s invitation for dialogue before resuming legislative activities, believing that such discussions would help ease tensions and foster mutual understanding.
