Mudashiru Obasa Returns as Speaker of Lagos Assembly After Impeachment

Mudashiru Obasa, the ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, announced his return to office on Tuesday, February 27, reclaiming his position as Speaker.

This marks Obasa’s first appearance at the Assembly since his impeachment on January 13. He was removed by an overwhelming majority of lawmakers and replaced by Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, who made history as the first female Speaker of the Lagos Assembly.

“I’ve resumed and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa said after storming the Assembly complex on Thursday morning with Police and State Security Service operatives as escorts.
