10 Dead And ₦11bn Worth of Property Destroyed in Kano #EndBadGovernance Protest

Governor Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has vowed to fully enforce the recommendations of the Committee of Inquiry investigating the #EndBadGovernance protest that took place on August 1, 2024.
He made this commitment while receiving the committee’s report from its chairman, retired Justice Lawan Wada, during the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting at Government House on Tuesday.
The governor further announced plans to issue a white paper that will identify individuals responsible for financing and executing the violent protest.
This was disclosed in a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Tofa, on Tuesday.
According to the report, at least 10 people lost their lives, while seven others sustained severe injuries. Additionally, the protest led to the destruction of public and private properties valued at over ₦11 billion.
Governor Yusuf stressed that his administration allowed the committee to operate independently throughout its six-month investigation, ensuring an unbiased and thorough process.
“I have full trust in the integrity and professionalism of the committee members. They were appointed based on merit, and I am confident they carried out their duties impartially,” Yusuf stated.
He assured that his government would take appropriate action based on the report’s findings to deter future acts of violence and destruction.
The governor also praised the committee for its diligent work and encouraged its members to remain available for future assignments if needed.
While presenting the report, Justice Wada revealed that the committee visited all affected areas and engaged stakeholders to compile a detailed account of the protest’s impact.
“The governor’s resolve to implement the committee’s recommendations marks a crucial step toward accountability and justice in Kano State,” the statement concluded.
