PDP Cancels NEC Meeting Due To Tension In State Legislature
The PDP National Secretary declared that the party was holding congresses in Benue, Ekiti, Kano, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, and Sokoto, and that they would be holding congresses in Abia and Ebonyi at a later date.
“Furthermore, in accordance with the NEC’s directive to hold congresses in 24 state chapters of the party, the NWC initiated the congresses but was unable to complete the exercise in some states due to a variety of reasons, including litigation, disagreement among stakeholders, and logistical challenges, among others,” the statement stated. Congresses in Abia and Ebonyi have not yet ended owing to litigation; congresses in Benue, Ekiti, Kano, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, and Sokoto are still in progress.
“It is instructive to state that congress reports would not be complete to be presented to NEC as required within the earlier stipulated timeframe if the congresses in these states were not concluded.”Given the aforementioned, it is necessary that the NWC move the intended NEC meeting for September 26, 2024 to a new date. As a result, the NWC would like to inform every member of our party’s National Executive Committee that the 99th NEC meeting will now take place on Thursday, October 24.
Many NWC members were not happy with the recent rescheduling, according to a senior member who asked to remain anonymous since they were not authorized to discuss the matter. According to the source, the postponement was planned to further certain goals as opposed to the party’s overall objectives.
Timothy Osadolor, the deputy national youth leader for the PDP, also voiced his disapproval of the postponement.
