Gooners Are Still Buzzing After a Historic 5-1 Triumph Over Manchester City

Sunday’s stunning 5-1 victory against Manchester City at Emirates Stadium will go down as one of our greatest Premier League performances. It’s a win that not only thrilled fans but also rewrote the record books with an array of incredible milestones.

This emphatic result marked our biggest-ever win against the reigning Premier League champions. The last time we managed to score four against titleholders was back in 1982 when we beat Aston Villa 4-3 in the First Division. For City, it was their heaviest Premier League away defeat in eight years, following their 4-0 loss to Everton in January 2017.

In fact, this was our largest margin of victory against Manchester City since a 5-1 win at Maine Road in February 2003. Over the 213 meetings between the two clubs since 1893, this was just the sixth time we’ve scored five or more goals against them. Our biggest-ever triumph came in October 2000 when we won 5-0, and we netted seven in a thrilling 7-3 win back in 1956.

The match also saw remarkable performances from our youngest stars. Eighteen-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly notched his first-ever senior goal, while 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri sealed the win with a sublime strike. This marked the first time two teenagers scored in the same league game for Arsenal since 1986, when a young Tony Adams and Niall Quinn netted in a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Ethan and Myles also became the youngest players to score in the Premier League against the reigning champions since Wayne Rooney’s iconic goal for Everton against Arsenal in 2003, when he was just 17 years and 150 days old.

This feat also marked only the fourth instance of two players aged 18 or younger scoring for the same team in a Premier League match, and the first since Everton’s James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe achieved it in April 2007. Incredibly, Mikel Arteta assisted both goals in that Everton game, making him and Declan Rice the only players to assist two teenagers in a single Premier League game following Rice’s stellar showing on Sunday.

Ethan’s goal was the icing on the cake, coming from a mesmerizing 36-pass sequence lasting 1 minute and 54 seconds and involving all 10 outfield players. This was the longest passing sequence leading to a Premier League goal since September 2023, highlighting the fluidity and dominance of our play.

It was a day to remember for the Gooner faithful, with records shattered and history made—an unforgettable chapter in our Premier League story.
