Jigawa claims that the “End Bad Governance” protest cost it N5 billion.
During the August 2024 nationwide “End Bad Governance” protests, properties valued at N5 billion were destroyed, according to the Jigawa State Government.
Barrister Bello Fanini, the chairman of the fact-finding committee on the protest, revealed this to Governor Umar Namadi on Tuesday night, January 21, during the presentation of the committee’s report in the Council Chambers of the Government House in Dutse.
Fanini, the state’s Commissioner for Justice, disclosed that the properties that were damaged included private property as well as assets owned by the federal, state, and local governments.
Governor Namadi responded by praising the committee for their commitment and promising that the government would carefully consider and put their recommendations into practice.
He also underlined the significance of protecting people and property throughout the state.
The committee had made a number of recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
