Immigration captures 90 foreign nationals for cybercrime in Rivers.

Ninety foreign nationals have been arrested in Rivers State by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and other security agencies on suspicion of participating in cybercrime.

Rivers State Comptroller of NIS, Y.I. Abdulmajeed confirmed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Based on reliable intelligence, the operation, according to Abdulmajeed, targeted a hideout where the suspects engaged in cybercrime activities intended to swindle innocent Nigerians.

According to him, 94 people were taken into custody, including four Nigerians, five Chadians, and 85 Cameroonians.

Twenty of the 94 suspects were women, while 74 were men.He added the immigration office also found that all 90 foreign nationals had entered the country through unauthorised entry ports and did not hold residency cards or travel permits during interrogation.

According to him, two Nigerians from Rivers State who were accused of housing and acting as landlords to the foreigners were also taken into custody.

According to Comptroller Abdulmajeed, Kemi Nandap, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, has ordered a prompt and exhaustive investigation into the situation.
