The Edo Police Headquarters Maintains that a Female Police Officer Should be Fired
Inspector Edith Uduma was fired by the Edo State Police Command, which said she used the case of Sgt.
Abraham, who was accused of raping a female suspect, to demand money instead of reporting the crime through the proper procedures.
Moses Yamu, the spokesperson for the command, addressed the issue in a statement on Sunday, stating that Uduma and her husband, Inspector Ibrahim Mohammed, had tried to conceal the occurrence by demanding N1 million from Abraham.
“The Edo State Police Command deems it necessary to set the records straight regarding this subject matter,” Yamu said.
He outlined that Uduma, who was the Charge Room Officer on duty the night of the alleged incident, failed to report the issue to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) or Incident Duty Officer.
Instead, Yamu claimed she “took advantage of the situation to enrich herself,” calling her husband to help extort Abraham.
According to Yamu’s account, Sgt. Abraham only provided N45,000 in answer to the request. After becoming dissatisfied, Uduma and Mohammed made the decision to upload a video of the encounter on social media and inform the DPO about Abraham’s misbehaviour.
“After these incidents, an orderly room trial was held against all the officers, and Sgt. Abraham and Insp. Edith Uduma were dismissed,” Yamu revealed.
Because of his involvement, Inspector Ibrahim Mohammed was demoted to sergeant.
The police leadership emphasised that any unhappy party has the right to appeal the judgement under the Police Act and Regulation and warned against “propaganda, disinformation, or misinformation” intended to clear Uduma or her husband.
