Former Minister Aregbesola gets suspended by the APC.
Rauf Aregbesola, the immediate former interior minister, has been suspended by the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to his alleged anti-party activities and vocal criticism of prominent party members, such as President Bola Tinubu and former governor chief Bisi Akande.
Aregbesola, who served two terms as governor of Osun State, publicly opposed Adegoyega Oyetola’s reelection, siding with opposition parties in the general elections of 2023 and the Osun governorship in 2022.
He expressed in 2022 that he prayed for the party’s leadership to fail, a claim that provoked strong criticism.
A disciplinary investigation into these allegations was started by the APC leadership in Ward 8, Ifofin, Ilesa, where Aregbesola is from.
In a letter dated October 24, Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal and Secretary Alao Kamoru confirmed his suspension in response to the committee’s conclusions.
Six counts of alleged anti-party activities, including establishing alternative party structures, working with opposition parties, and forming splinter organisations, are the basis for this suspension.
The ruling is in accordance with the APC Constitution’s Article 21(3)(vi)(c), which gives the State Executive Committee the authority to implement disciplinary actions.
Aregbesola’s suspension has been formally confirmed to Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC.
