Sit-at-home: Residents of Anambra obey IPOB’s instruction despite Soludo’s direction

Many Awka residents followed the Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) sit-at-home order on Monday, even though Anambra State Governor Prof. Charles Soludo ordered businesses to stay open. Economic activity in the state capital came to a complete halt, and schools were also impacted as students were sent home.

Our correspondent, who toured the capital, observed that most business establishments-including banks, shops, and private offices-remained shut, with many citing fears of potential attacks as the reason for the closure.

Many people were forced to walk or stay indoors because the streets were mostly empty and there was little traffic. The same situation was reported from other large cities, like as Nnewi and Onitsha.

Filling stations, markets, including the Abakaliki Rice Mill, and private establishments like mechanic shops and building material markets were all shuttered, according to our correspondents in Abakaliki and Owerri.

With a two-day duration, the sit-at-home order is linked to the Biafra declaration. Biafran flags are anticipated to be raised in key spots throughout Ebonyi and other southeast states on the second day.

Mazi Simon Ekpa, the leader of IPOB, who is based in Finland, shared this command on social media last week, including Facebook.
