Imo State residents complied with the sit-at-home order, leaving the streets empty.

Punch Metro reported that there was no movement throughout the state, with stores closed and no employees visible in transit.

One pedestrian, who asked to remain anonymous, said, “As you can see, everywhere is deserted due to the sit-at-home that began today.”

Everyone has decided to stay indoors and wait for events to unfold out of fear of being attacked by gunmen.

“To reassure locals that there will be peace and order, the Imo State Police Command and other security forces put on a show of force on Saturday.”

In response to the alleged threats posed by the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network, regarding their unlawful sit-at-home directives scheduled for October 21 and 22, 2024, the Imo State Police Command, in collaboration with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, is conducting show-of-force operations and confidence-building patrols across the state,” said police spokesperson Henry Okoye in a statement.

Making sure law-abiding folks are safe is our top priority.”Security personnel will increase visible policing through these patrols starting today,October 19, and continuing until October 23.”

Detectives will also conduct reconnaissance inorder to obtain useful information.

These initiatives seek to uphold law and order and reassure the people. The Command asked people to continue their regular activities while being aware of their surroundings and to maintain composure and vigilance.

The closest police station should be notified of any suspicious activity.

Imo State residents were thanked for their support by Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, who also assured them that the Command’s top priority is still their safety.

The statement went on to say, “We can improve peace and security in our beloved state by working together.”
