330kV Power Transmission Line Vandalized in Makurdi – TCN
The Ugwuaji – Makurdi 330 Kilo Volt transmission line’s tower T195 was vandalised on Saturday, according to a statement released by the Transmission Company of Nigeria on Thursday.
According to Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs of TCN in Abuja, the damage occurred at Watuolo village, Utonkon, in the Ado Local Government Area of Benue. However, Mbah claimed that the community’s alertness, which began at around three in the morning when they detected suspicious activity near the tower, prevented the vandalism.
One of the suspected vandals was quickly captured by the community members, she said, while the others managed to flee and turned him over to the police.
”TCN commends the people of Watuolo village for their swift action and vigilance.
”We equally appeal to communities hosting critical infrastructure to emulate this example and take ownership of protecting transmission installations in their vicinity.
”As we continue to work with security operatives and host communities against vandalism, we appeal for more vigilance by residents in the communities, who we believe are very critical in this fight, ”she stated.
