Xavi Hernandez in Talks with Manchester United as Pressure Mounts on Erik ten Hag

Manchester United may recruit former Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez if the team decides to fire manager Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils have had a dismal start to the 2017 Premier League season; after eight games, Ten Hag's team is currently in 12th place. Only three of those eight games have been won by Manchester United, which has increased pressure on the Dutchman to improve their record. Manchester United's agents have reportedly contacted the former Barcelona player twice in recent months, according to Mail Sport. Although United sources claim that several high-level meetings have recently taken place in the Catalan capital due to co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's presence to support the Ineos Britannia sailing team in their competition with New Zealand for the America's Cup, a four-person delegation headed by chief executive Omar Berrada flew out to Barcelona last Thursday. However, it has also stoked rumours that Xavi might be a candidate in the event that Ten Hag is fired after two and a half years in leadership. As he gets ready to play Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday, United sources insist that Ten Hag is still their manager and that the team has no plans to replace him. Mick Brown, a former Manchester United topscout who still has a lot of connections at Old Trafford, reportedly stated that Ten Hag is "always one defeat away" from losing his job. Driver Killed in Collision Between Truck and Bus on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

A driver was killed on Wednesday when his white Mazda bus collided with a moving vehicleclose to Car Park C in the Lotto section of the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway. According to reports, the incident happened as the driver, the sole person on board the bus carrying the sacks of potatoes, was travelling to Lagos. Witnesses speculate that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, lost control, and collided with the truck from behind. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Enforcement and Compliance Agency, confirmed the accident in a statement to reporters, stating that excessive speed and potential exhaustion were the causes. According to eyewitness reports, the motorist was speeding and probably fell asleep, Akinbiyi clarified. The Mazda bus was on its way to Lagos for an early morning delivery, filled with potatoes.Unfortunately, he lost control and collided with a Dangote vehicle that was moving from behind. After being stuck in the debris until he was finally freed, the driver passed away instantly.In addition to offering his condolences to the family of the deceased, Akinbiyi stressed the risks of speeding and exhaustion on the road and advised drivers to use caution, particularly at night. "As these lead to preventable road fatalities, we once again urge drivers to refrain from nighttime travel and excessive speeding," he stated. The tragic collision emphasises how important it is to raise awareness of and enforce traffic safety laws, especially on busy thoroughfares like the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway.

Umahi Gives Julius Berger Seven-Day Deadline to Fix Abuja-Kaduna Road

Julius Berger has been given a final seven days by Works Minister David Umahi to accept the Federal Government's offer of N740.79 billion to complete the 82km segment II of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano motorway, failing which the contract will be terminated. Frustrated by the drawn-out negotiations, Umahi demanded that the project be finished in the upcoming seven days.The ultimatum was given at the Ministry Headquarters in Abuja during a courtesy visit to the Minister by Dr. Pier Lubasch, the new managing director of Julius Berger Plc, and Dr. Lars Richter, the departing managing director. The visit was intended to introduce the new executive officer to the Honourable Minister of Works, Orji Uchenna, according to a statement signed by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister on Wednesday. This most recent event comes after Umahi threatened to cancel the contract, which was first given to Julius Berger in 2018 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. The Abuja-Kaduna stretch has only made 27% development in six years, but the Kaduna-Zaria part has been finished and the Zaria-Kano section is almost finished.  Julius Berger was accused by Umahi at an event last wee of politicising the project in order to damage the reputation of the current administration.
