At least sixteen people have been adopted in a recent attack on Bena village and surrounding areas in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The Secretary of the Security Committee in Wasagu, Lawali Umar, confirmed the incident to Channels TV, he stated that the bandits ambushed victims working on their guinea corn farms and took them hostage.

Umar revealed that in a separate attack that happened recently, bandits raided Tudun Wada area, abducting six people.

In response to that, the army personnel engaged the bandits in a gunfight, successfully repelling the attack and rescuing the six abducted individuals.

Although some of the sixteen originally kidnapped people managed to escape, approximately nine people are still held captive, with the bandits demanding an undisclosed ransom.

Umar further appeared to the Kebbi State Government to reinforce security in vulnerable areas, particularly Yar Maitaba, Mai Rai Rai, and Tungar Sabo, which he described as a known stronghold for the bandits.

“We commend the state government’s efforts against banditry, but with the guinea corn harvest season upon us, our farmers need better security,” he urged.
